Parade of Lights Dec 6, 2014

This is the first year that St. Elizabeth’s has participated in Guerneville’s Parade of Lights, and we of course took credit for the miraculous cessation of rain! Our entry “Joy to the World” was well received and we had a wonderful time. Thank you to all who helped make this happen, especially our choir and the volunteers who worked so hard to provide the truck, trailer and decorations.

Yes that’s Mary Ann Gustafson as a shepherd! As a former Guerneville School teacher, she has been in many Christmas parades in Guerneville!

Thank you to everyone who helped with our effort! The angels and shepherds with the holy family looked so beautiful and innocent and the choir sang beautifully! “Freedom is Coming” rocked and the theme song “Joy to the World” was just perfect!

  1. I sure thought it was a wonderful event, and I felt really blessed that we got a temporary reprieve from the rainy weather. Plus it wasn’t all that cold this past Saturday evening! Would anyone know what the judges thought of our float? Even if we didn’t win anything, I think we managed to allow God to have a good impact on the parade watchers through us. At least I pray that we did! Thanks so much to everyone who helped make our participation possible, particularly the young couple who donated the use of their truck and flatbed trailer. It’ll be great if and when we can do this again next year!

    • We didn’t win a prize from the judges, but I am sure God was happy with our attempts to express the joy of Christmas to the Guerneville community. Thanks Eric for all that you do and the entire choir and director Rebecca Brown! Let’s start a children’s choir school in Guerneville! My late husband was a founding director of the GTU at Berkeley, it was once just an idea among some theology professors.

    • Thanks Eric, we didn’t win a prize but we achieve our goal of expressing “Joy to the World.” Thank you very much for the wonderful performance which made our float so joyful and true to the spirit of our faith.

  2. We did have a children’s choir at our previous church and I have such wonderful memories of listening to them sing on Christmas Eve, Easter and Mother’s Day! I know that keeping our kids active in church activities, including a choir, would be wonderful for their faith formation and crucial to the ongoing life of the parish. Please pray about it, and ask for Saint Cecilia to intercede too! Kids and your parents, if we ever manage to recruit for a children’s choir, please consider joining! Learning music is a lot of fun, and singing to God, or playing an instrument (see Psalm 150!) gives you a lot of joy and happiness. Here in the church there is the very true saying: “He or she who sings, prays twice!”

Though we didn’t win a prize from the parade judges, I’m so glad just the same that we had the opportunity to participate in it. God be willing, we can do it again next year!
