SFFD Chaplain Fr. Greene Retires

Fr. Greene has been a great blessing to many of us fire fighter families. Our prayers are with him as he retires, wishing him health and peace with endless gratitude.

He is mentioned here in an article on chaplains for local police and fire depts.

Please feel free to share your Fr. Greene stories. I know he gave last rites to my brother Mike in 2003 and again in 2015 and kidded him saying “Hog, you better stop jerking me around.” Station 17 bought him a motorcyle which he enjoyed.

The banquet for Fr. Greene has been indefinitely postponed but you can find updates here.

Here is Fr. Greene’s response:

A Big Thanks from THE PADRE

It’s always hard to say goodbye and it’s always never enough to say thanks.  Today I want to tell you all how fortunate I have been to be your Chaplain for thirty-seven years.  They have been the happiest years of my life and you have become generations of my family.  I can never express my gratitude for your friendship, love and support.  I will always carry that with me.  As countless retiring firefighters have said to me, they miss their friends the most.

I also want to try to thank you for the gifts you gave me on my retirement.  What generosity!  You worked so hard to sell T-shirts, hats and who knows what else, to raise money for the new car and the other gifts you gave me.  They will always remind me of your love and generosity.  Thanks a million times over.

As I come to my last watch, may God bless you all with good health and keep you all safe.  You are the greatest!  It’s been an honor to serve you, to learn from you, and to call all of the members of the SFFD my friends.

 Yours always,

 John Greene
