William Wordsworth wrote a warning about this viewpoint in his poem “The Tables Turned” in which he warns “

Our meddling intellect
Mis-shapes the beauteous forms of things:—
We murder to dissect.

One of the murder victims of modern intellectual life is certainly faith. Barron calls this “scientism” playing on the argument between belief and scientific proof, and makes the point that truth is not necessary served by science, but rather a belief in science per se has replaced religion’s role in serving truth.
